      ABOUT SPLICEDwire
      About the SPLICEDwire site

SPLICEDwire.com is the web outlet for SPLICEDwire Film Review & Feature Content Services, and a popular destination site for everyday film buffs, featuring smart, witty, insightful, unpretentious and sometimes scathing reviews of new movies each week, plus...

  • frequent filmmaker Interviews and other Features
  • an extensive Upcoming Films Calendar
  • a unique On Video section featuring "Couch Critique"
  •         (a commentary on the home viewing experience)
  • the exclusive DVD Spotlight (recommended new releases)
  • 1,000s of Archived reviews & features.
  • ...and, of course, more!

Believe it or not, award-winning SPLICEDwire is a one-man show. Rob Blackwelder, a professional film critic since 1995, began the site and content service in 1996 to provide movie coverage to newspapers that didn't want to run the same old wire reviews but couldn't afford their own staff critics. He has written over 2,200 reviews and 200 interviews, which have appeared in dozens of publications, and he provides on-air reviews for KGO 810AM in San Francisco.

  •   About SPLICEDwire Content Services

Put simply, SPLICEDwire can provide weekly movie coverage -- including reviews, interviews, Oscar coverage and other features -- customized for your web site, radio station or print publication for less per week than you probably spend on groceries. And all of it is written in critic Rob Blackwelder's knowledgeable, droll but entertainingly accessible style.

    SPLICEDwire averages...
  • 250 film reviews a year
  • 20-40 interviews with stars and directors a year
  • + other features including Oscar coverage and annual Best & Worst lists.
  • For more information on standard content packages, please see About SPLICEDwire Content Packages.

      About Rob Blackwelder
    See more Robio

Film critic/interviewer/feature writer/webmonkey/sleep deprivation expert Rob Blackwelder has been studying film and pontificating about movies since he was a smart-mouthed teenager in Boulder, Colorado. He moved to Oakland, California in 1990 and shortly thereafter began studying journalism.

He won numerous awards as the entertainment editor of The Advocate, multi-National Pacemaker-winning newspaper at Contra Costa College. When he graduated from college, he realized that he could not give up writing about movies -- his favorite part of working at the college paper -- even if he had to hold a day job to do it. Through a friend he finagled a freelance gig writing one review a week for the Daily Republic in Fairfield, California, which kept him on the studios' mailing lists. In 1996, Rob started a web site called Movieolla and before long was being chased by cease-and-desist lawyers for the people who make the Moviola editing equipment, the motion picture industry's (pre-digital) workhorse for cutting and splicing film. Hmm, thought Rob, splicing! And thus was born SPLICEDwire, which now provides customized movie review and feature content to newspapers (including the Daily Republic) and several other web sites.

Rob's favorite movies are "Breaking the Waves," "The Thin Man" and "What's New Pussycat?"

For ages Rob had no biographical information posted to this site, and finally his mother got fed up and wrote a bio for him, which he foolishly promised to post, sight unseen. If you care to read this embarrassing tome, click here.
